Grandma's Baked Croque‑Monsieur
30 min4 servingsEasy
30 minutes and hungry? Baked croque-monsieur is the answer. Bread, ham, gruyère: you almost certainly have all of that in your fridge already. The real advantage here is the oven: four croques at once, golden, served together. A classic that never fails.

Method
- 1Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F) and line your baking tray with parchment paper.
- 2In a bowl, whisk the egg with the milk and crème fraîche. Season with salt and pepper. Quickly dip each slice of bread in the mix, on both sides. A quick dip is enough, no need to soak it.💡 The whyTwo seconds per side, that's it. If your bread starts falling apart in your hand, you've waited too long.
- 3Place 8 slices of bread on the tray. Spread gruyère over each one, add a slice of ham, then more gruyère. Top with the remaining 8 slices.
